Fighting a Case of the Mondays with The Beatles

The majority of us aren’t exactly big fans of Monday (unless it’s your day off). In order to help combat the contamination that Monday can bring, I’m trying to do something about it but I need some help.
Each Monday, I’ll share one of my favorite things or something I’m currently into. Do the same by leaving one of your favorite things – anything – in the comments. It doesn’t even matter what it is as long as you love it.

Here’s mine…
If you’ve been following me at all for the last couple of weeks via Twitter, you know that I’ve been working my way through the entire Beatles’ discography. I’ve also been sharing quick thoughts on each record as a whole (with the exception of the first two albums).
I’ve shared this before, but music’s one of my biggest passions most bodacious interests. I’m particularly a fan of rock and roll with classic rock being arguably my favorite genre.
Like most, I was familiar with a handful of The Beatles anthology, but I was never as familiar with their entire catalog to the degree that I’d would’ve liked. After all, they’ve left a legacy and have influenced most rock and roll musicians after them in some way.

Going through their entire discography really was an awesome experience. The progression that they made from simple pop songs to more acoustic stuff influenced by bands like The Byrds and other musicians like Bob Dylan, through psychedelic era and then coming back to the stripped down recording process was really cool to hear evolve over their career.
I don’t dig all their stuff and there’s some albums that I probably won’t revisit anytime soon, but there’s a whole bunch of other tracks that’ll definitely be finding their way on to my playlists.
Okay, with that said, if you dig the Beatles, what’re your favorite tunes? Otherwise, why are you not a fan?

Well, after hearing you play Let It Be approximately 3,598 times…I can say it was one of my faves. haha Just kidding. I still love it, but I can live without hearing it for a while. I like Come Together, but I actually prefer the Aerosmith cover of it. Probably because I heard it first.
I also enjoy:
Eight Days a Week
Can’t Buy Me Love
Here Comes the Sun
I Want to Hold Your Hand
Money
Shout
Twist and Shout
Yesterday
All You Need Is Love
I don’t like that Revolution 9 song. Ick.
I can’t make up my mind about which version of Come Together I like more. Aerosmith is probably the only band that could do a suitable cover it, though. I’ll say that.
Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, …
I too prefer the Aerosmith cover of Come Together.
As Tom knows, I’m following in his footstops on this Beatles journey and so far I really enjoy most of the stuff from Rubber Soul the most. I’m only on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band so I’ve still got a few albums to go to be complete with the discography.
Favorite songs so far:
Eleanor Rigby
Ask Me Why
Yesterday
Drive My Car
Wait
Other songs I know I like:
Revolution
Octopus’s Garden
I used to like Eleanor Rigby, but then I had to do a massive paper on that song during freshman year of college. I listened to that song so many times, it was ridiculous. I couldn’t listen to the song years after that.
Drive My Car is such a cool song to me.
I would call myself a surface level beatles fan.
My favorite tunes:
Hey Jude (best for me)
Eleanor Rigby
Come together
That about does it
Hey Jude has an interesting story behind it – have you heard it? If not, look it up. I think you’d dig it.
Have not, will check that out. Thanks for being more than useless
It’s the most I can do.
Favorite Beatles songs:
Let it be (best)
Eleanor Rigby
Strawberry Fields Forever
Hey Jude
Twist & Shout – I know lame, but it’s such a fun song to play and sing to
Where’s your list Tom?
No worries on the Twist & Shout. It’s an awesome song – very rock and roll and the fact that Lennon sung it at the end of the one-day recording session makes it all the cooler.
I’d have to say that my list consists of (in no particular order than Let It Be):
There are a few more, but that’s enough for now..
Ooh Here Comes the Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps – Good choices. If I had thought longer, they would have made my list too.
I love the Beatles. But more than that, I like homages to the Beatles. Especially the movie “Across the Universe.”
I don’t think anything captures the spirit of Beatles music more than that movie. And the covers of some of the songs almost put the originals to shame.
On an unrelated note, I have a love/hate relationship with your office space pic on your Mondays posts. Well, maybe not so much love/hate, but nightmare inducing visions on account of that woman’s face.
I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about that movie. I may add that to our queue on NetFlix.
And yeah, I may be mixing up the whole Monday image. It’s getting dated.
hmmm.. the Beatles.. umm I can’t say that I am a huge fan of them. I actually dont think I’ve ever listened to an entire album of theirs. Just whatever would be played on the oldies radio station.
but I think my favorite song of what I know of the Beatles is Yesterday..
Yesterday’s definitely a good one. Lots of people dig that one.
Not the hugest Beatles fan. I like their stuff, but never went gung ho.
I have been on a huge Pandora kick lately. I like being able to create stations on the fly based on a particular artist, genre, or song.
BTW, I’m digging the new look over here. I have been reading in RSS and didn’t catch the new theme until now.
I can’t say I’m a Beatles fanatic, but I love some of their songs.
Also, glad you dig the look! I wanted something to be a little bit more my kinda style versus the initial thing I had thrown together..
I’m going with an entire album: Revolver. Not to early that the Beatles hadn’t yet developed their “sound” but not too late that Yoko had taken over. I think it might be the only album where each one of the Beatles contributed some lyrics (though it would have been fine without Ringo’s “Yellow Submarine”). Plus, the album cover art is lots-O-fun!
-Marshall Jones Jr.
Revolver’s a good choice.
So what’s your particular take on Yoko? I’ve got mixed feelings about her. I think she definitely had a hand in taking the Beatles in their ultimate direction, but she also came in at a pretty rough part in the bands career..
I didn’t realize how much Beatles music was a part of my childhood until I looked at the back cover of Beatles Rock Band. I probably stood there for the next 30 minutes singing in my head small sections of every single song listed.
A few of my favorites include:
I Want To Hold Your Hand
Do You Want to Know a Secret
Penny Lane
Paperback Writer
We Can Work it Out
