I'm Thom Fowler. I pastor two churches and also work full-time in a retail environment...but that is what I do, not who I am. I am a follower of Christ and to me that's not just about going to church, opening my Bible occasionally and saying a prayer once in a while. For me following Christ is interacting daily with Someone who knows me and, despite my flaws, loves and accepts me.  "Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes." Ephesians 1:4 NLT  My motivation for blogging is that I know that others struggle with life as I do and a partner on the journey is always welcome.

Touching My World

I am simply overwhelmed and humbled. I realize the sheer volume of reading material that can come to us on any given day and I am grateful that so many of you have taken the time to read what has been laid upon my heart. It is my prayer that in reading you be challenged to listen to what God may be saying to you and that you would take up that challenge to move on what God may be encouraging you to do.

I am astounded at how many people have been reached by the Facebook posts of the blog alone (580!), individuals from all over OH, IN, KY, MI, NJ, NY, TX and WV. And even more astounding is that fact that of that number, several from around the world have looked at it – people from Australia, Botswana, China, Germany, Guatemala and India – almost every continent! Only God knows what this “casting upon the water” (Ecclesiastes 11:1) will accomplish! And God can use any of us to accomplish His will. Any of us can touch the world, from individuals in our own homes to countless others around the globe.

I would ask if this blog has ministered to you that you would pass it along to others. “Invite” your friends on Facebook to like my page. Send the website address to friends via email. There is so much pain and loneliness in this old world and I pray that God will continue to use the blog to speak to people far beyond my local circles of influence, that they may be drawn closer to the only true Answer to all that life has to throw at us – Jesus Christ! May God bless my efforts to His glory and may he bless you today as well!

Stoke the Fire

Father, I so appreciate this time together! Please stoke the fire of my desire so much that I literally cannot live without it! No matter how hard (or soft) life might get, I beg of You – I plead, help me to never give up our time together! “As the deer pants for the water” (Psalm 42:1) may my heart be drawn to You! Thank you, Father, for Your love! Thank You, for Your grace and mercy and forgiveness! Oh, where would I be were it not for You! Praise Your holy name! I love You, too! Help my love for You to be ever on the increase and never on the decrease! Please, use me today and every day to bring You glory and honor. Help me to be a light on a hill that draws others to You! Fill me! Use me!

Ephesians 4:1-10

Lord, help me to “lead a life worthy” of God’s call on my life. “Always [may I] be humble and gentle [and] patient.” And may I make “love” the compound that binds it all together in the unity of “oneness” that is found only in living out our relationships with each other in unity with You.

Grow Down

Father, forgive me for yielding to distraction…this is my time with You and Facebook should have no part in it. My phone is down and my attention is on You. Please help me hear and listen to what You have to say to me today.

Ephesians 3:14-21

Lord, help me to be “empowered…with inner strength through Your Spirit.” I know You have been doing a new work in me, accomplishing things that I could never do on my own (Praise Your Holy name! All the glory to You!) and I pray that I will cling to You. May my inner strength continue to be powered from Your “glorious, unlimited resources.”

This wonderful passage admonishes me to let my roots “grow down into Your love and keep me strong.”  Without You I am surely weak and helpless! In my own strength I fail. Only in You am I victorious. Thank you, Lord…

I am incomplete without Your love. Help me so that my overwhelming desire will be to “have the power to understand how WIDE, how LONG, how HIGH, and how DEEP Your love is”! May I “experience the love of Christ” – overwhelm me with Your love. May it gush and splash over on to all I meet!

And “through Your mighty power at work within me accomplish infinitely more than I might ask or [even] think”!

Love in Action

Good morning, Father! Thank you for the good experience last night* and reconnecting with old friends. Help me to cherish your Word and to not take it for granted. Please continue to bless the efforts of those diligently working to get Your Word into the hands of those who have never heard.

*Karen and I attended a Wycliffe Associates Banquet – it was a wonderful opportunity.

Ephesians 3:1-13

Lord, thank you for the affirmation of Your promises. The honor and privilege of coming into your presence is awesomely wonderful!  (vs.12) I am so grateful that You provided a way for me, a sinner, to come before You, to be with You. Without the great sacrifice of You Jesus, I could not do it! Praise Your name, O Lord! For Your forgiveness, grace and mercy I truly give You praise!

I come into Your presence this morning asking that You would use me, use me to communicate Your love. And not just through the sermon but through every opportunity I have when interacting with people in church, in public and in social gatherings today. Please help me see with Your eyes and to respond with Your heart. Help my entire body to be infused with Your love and to disperse it to all I come in contact with each and every day.

Building Materials

I have come this morning to bask in Your presence, to soak up the warmth of Your love, to be filled to the cusp of my being with Your wisdom and to begin the process of being a channel to the world by which You can disperse these great blessings to the world. Please help me to treasure our time together more and more.

Ephesians 2:19-22

God’s family is compared to as “God’s house”. We are part of something far greater than ourselves or even our local church.  We are part of a structure begun long ago by God himself. Our foundation is the apostles and the prophets and Christ is the cornerstone. We are not some hodge podge of odds and ends thrown together with hope of it all “miraculously” making sense, but (as the NLT puts it), “We are carefully joined together in [Christ]” – no happenstance, no luck, no pipe dreams but CAREFULLY assembled for a specific purpose. As the notes on this passage alluded to, this is so the world can see who God really is (LOVE!) and that harmony can be achieved – through Christ!

Oh, Great Master Builder, help me to fit in to Your master plan. Help me to be used for Your purpose. Enable me to bring to You other useful “material” – others – who will allow themselves to be used by You to be a “building” that all the world can see and be drawn to for Your glory!

Today’s picture is of a home being constructed by a group of men from the Cypress Bible Church in Cypress, Texas  for two families in Juarez, Mexico.  My brother-in-law Chuck is on the far right and my son, Massey, is behind the camera. 🙂
