Not Just Thoughts but Faces

I am eager to see what You have in store for me today, Father, both in our time here this morning and throughout the events of this day! Enable me to hear Your voice and to act upon Your direction. It’s exhilarating to realize that You choose to use me! Thank You for the privilege.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (<<click here)

Lord, there is much in these last few paragraphs of 1 Thessalonians and I don’t want to miss any of it! In these two verses Paul speaks of honoring our leaders in the Lord’s work. I feel the people I serve do so but I also strive to honor the other leaders of my churches as well. I am definitely not in it for the money but I am compensated well enough. The other leaders of my churches are volunteers. I respect them, I cherish their input. I look forward to worshipping with them each week and for the most part even enjoy our time together even when we must conduct the “business” of the church.

I work to live out my relationship with You, Lord, before them. I learn from You each and every day and want to pass that learning on but their lives teach me as well. My leaders pull weeds and scrub pews – servant leadership is a lifestyle for many. I watch as they struggle with difficult situations of aging parents and wayward children – yet their faith holds. I see them valiantly fight against cancer and remain strong though death pulls loved ones from their arms.

Lord, as each of these examples goes on paper, they are not just passing thoughts. Each one has at least one face that fills my mind’s eye – sometimes there are several faces. These scenarios involve those who are still with me today but I can think of many others that involved those who are no longer with me, but with You.

Your faithful followers continue to build Your church and all of them deserve to be honored and respected. I do my part but most assuredly I have not and cannot do it alone. Lord, give us Your direction and fill us with Your love to carry on. Amen.

Love Multiplies, It Doesn’t Divide

Father, I plead of You help me to never grow weary of our time together! May it always be refreshing, fulfilling, encouraging and inspirational.  As the years go by may I collect many journals and when I look back please let me see what I have matured and changed for the better because You have continues to work in my life. May my passion and desire for relationship with You only broaden, deepen as the days and months roll by! As the old hymn goes…

Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom
More of grace to know
O deeper yet, I pray
And higher every day
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In thy precious, holy Word.

– Charles P Jones, 1900
AMEN!

Colossians 4:7-18 (<<click here)

Paul’s closing of his letter to Colosse is full of encouragement. Even though he was imprisoned he was surrounded by many faithful friends who mutually supported each other and lifted up the Church. Lord, help me to continue to surround myself with those who would lift up Your kingdom, as well as, myself. And help me do the same for Your kingdom and them. Love, and sometimes tough love, should permeate it all. With You infilling us all, we are to encourage one another to keep the faith. We are to fervently persevere in prayer for one another. Being a hermit may work for a few but we are called a body for a reason – to work together, weak and strong, to build Your kingdom. Please give us wisdom and strength and patience and courage. And Your love must saturate it all – too much damage can be done without it. The love with which You infill us is a multiplier – without it division is inevitable. Help me, Lord, help us, Lord to be filled with You and to be about Your business.

Overflow

Good morning, Father!  Thank you for the restful extra sleep. I so appreciate Your tender loving care for me. I want to be more like You every day.

Philippians 1: 3-11 (<<click here)

An inspiring passage that goes back a ways for me and reminds me of Steve Green’s song, “He Who Began a Good Work in You”. You are faithful, Lord, what You have begun you will finish. We are always a work in progress; You always have a work for us to do. We are always to be about becoming more and more like You. Verse 9 says that our “love will overflow more and more, and that [we] will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.” Lord, help me to keep on pressing onward and upward!  There is much to do and time is short. You may come at any time, I may go at any time – regardless my life is but a breath and I must be about my Father’s business.

Lord, I know I am far from perfect but I know You, through Your Spirit in me, continue to direct and guide my thoughts and actions. I pray that you will continue to do so, not that you are not willing or able, for You surely are but that I will continue to be faithful and obedient. Truly help my love to “overflow more and more”!

♪♫♪ He Who Began a Good Work in You ♫♪♫

[Chorus]

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He’ll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

If the struggle you’re facing
Is slowly replacing
Your hope with despair
Or the process is long
And you’re losing your song
In the night you can be sure
That the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure
He will never abandon you
You are His treasure
And He finds His pleasure in you

[Chorus]

But for You

Good morning, Father! I absolutely love the joy I feel in my heart when I’m up in the middle of the night and think about our time together. I am here to listen and learn and grow with You this morning!

Ephesians 2:1-10

But for You, I would not exist. Because You moved in the hearts of my parents and grandparents is why I exist.

But for You, I would not be..who I am…what I am…and where I am. It is scary to think about the kind of person I would be and what I would be up to without You in my life. You know my leanings toward sin, You know my weaknesses, You now my personality traits that could take me down very treacherous paths.  But for You, I would be a different person. Thank You, Father! All I am I owe to You! Praise Your holy name!

Help me to faithfully follow the path You have set me on. I pray that You will draw me closer to Your heart each and every day! I love You – help me love You more and more!
