Shine Brightly

What a privilege to be Your child, Father. The assurance of Your unconditional love gives me great comfort regardless of my circumstances. Thank You for the wonderful blessing that You are to my life!

Matthew 5:14-16 (<<click the green)

I have heard it argued that in reality darkness does not exist but in actuality, darkness is the absence of light. We have flashlights that cast beams of light into the darkness but there is no such thing as a darklight the can cast a shaft of darkness into the light.

As followers of Christ, we are responsible to “shine out for all to see”. Lord, You are the Great Light within us but how often do we try to throw a blanket over You so that we can do what we want? We try to hide Your light.

My fear is that many have no problem with shining a little light while in church or visiting dear old grandma but throw them out into the world and many are quick to throw their lamp “under a basket”. Lord, how often, when we live this kind of life, is Your reputation soiled?

We like to think that no one will know but quite often that is not the case. People have a way of finding out lots of things on either side of this scenario. We may try to hide the fact that we go to church from those we work with or live next to but word gets around.

Years ago I ran into an old acquaintance and through the course of conversation, I shared where I was ministering at the time. He told me where he worked and I made a connection to an active member in my church. Just by the look on his face, you could tell that he was surprised – the member’s reputation wasn’t reflecting a whole lot of light in regards to his relationship with Christ.

Our Christian friends can’t be fooled either…at least not for very long.

Lord, Your proclamation in Luke 6:45 rings loud and clear,

“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.”

Lord, we all struggle at times. May I diligently be storing up a good treasury in my heart so that I may be a producer of good things. May my light shine forth brightly so that I may bring glory to You. Amen.

Hide it Under a Bushel…NO!

As I come to write this morning, Father, it is pitch-black dark outside. The only light, beyond the occasional passing vehicle, are the lights in the room where I sit.

This is the world in which I find myself.

Even after the sun comes up, from a spiritual perspective much of the world around me will be pitch-black dark. There are many others glowing with Your love but so, so many are not. They are lost. They are searching. They are stumbling around trying to find their way, many not even knowing for what they are looking. May I steadily and brightly shine, glowing with Your love within me, that they may be drawn to You. Amen.

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16

Lord, You said that I am the “light of the world.” You shining forth through me is a powerful force. That, in and of itself, can have great impact…but is there more required of me? Your love glowing in me will attract others to its light but I do believe that You call me to “let [my] good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

I am not called to just be a passive light shining in the darkness. You have given me a clear call to action! What all that means specifically I am going to have to think on some.

Lord, may I shine brightly, with Your love and presence in my life radiating for all the world to see. And once You have the world’s attention may my “good deeds” impact them, as well, so much so that they want to know more and most importantly, that they want to know You! Amen.

Light for All to See

Father, I am so blessed to be called Your child. May I never take Your love for me for granted – it is way too precious to do so. May I never be content with where I find myself. May I ever be moving forward and upward, striving to be more like You. Amen.

Revelation 2:18 (<<click green)

This passage of Scripture is directed to the church in Thyatira. As I read the notes from my study Bible* from this particular section, Lord, it states that it was a working person’s town, with many trade guilds for cloth making, dyeing, and pottery.” It “was basically secular, with no focus on any particular religion.”

I read the whole passage – through the end of the chapter – but this note caught my attention. I feel that this is where I find myself, at least the environment in which I work. All in all, understandably it is a business and again, understandably, it is a secular environment. By its very nature, there is “no focus on any particular religion.” But regardless, a relationship with God is the focal point of my life.

I may work in the “dark”, per se, spiritually but You, Lord, stated in Matthew 5:14-16,

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

Lord, may where I work continue to be illuminated by the light You have placed within me. May my good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise You. Amen.
