Seasoned with Salt

Good morning, Father! It is early and I’m still a bit bleary-eyed but I am glad that once again I have the opportunity to come and sit at Your feet. I know You love me and absolutely nothing can separate me from Your love! (Romans 8:38-39) Please, bless our time together, may it be profitable for my soul. I give myself over to You – teach me, motivate me and make me act according to Your will.

Colossians 4:5-6 (<<click here)

Dictionary.com defines “wise” as “having the power of discerning and judging properly as to what is true or right, processing, discernment, judgment or discretion.” Lord, You direct us to live in this mindset. I cannot say that I have always succeeded in doing so. I truly believe that You are constantly working with me to be wiser in my day to day interactions with others. Discernment is a trait with which the Holy Spirit surely helps me. At work, at church or at home discernment helps things go along much more smoothly. Thank You for helping me to see things that make for wise interaction. Help me to make the most of every opportunity you bring my way.

After You help me to apply wisdom, discerning the situation in which I find myself, help me to be gracious. So many times extending grace to others has diffused a potentially volatile situation. Being kind and courteous goes a long way. In doing so what I then say is much more attractive to those with whom I am interacting. This whole directive is beneficial in working with others overall but Lord help me to think this way in sharing You with others.

I really don’t think I would enjoy French fries nearly as much without salt. Salty things appeal to my palate. In fact, I often crave salty things – chips, crackers, nuts, etc. Where the New Living Translation translates a portion of this passage as “attractive” others translate it as “seasoned with salt.” Lord, help me to be SALTY! May others crave my presence because I am seasoned with You. Enhance my interactions so much so that people are directed to You. Bless me today and in the days ahead with “saltiness” so I might have a “right response for everyone”.

Salty

Father, I must admit that I am still in shock over the death of Scott. But, I am also grateful that his death came as no surprise to You. You know our comings and our goings. My day will come – all of our days. Let me be ready. But in the meantime may I be diligent, may I be intentional about who I am in You, Father. And may our relationship impact the lives of everyone I meet.

2 Timothy 2:23-26 (<,click here)

As I read through this passage, Lord, I am encouraged. When it comes to my expression of our relationship with the world around I am not loud and pushy. Abrasive would not describe my style. I strive to live out Paul’s advice to Timothy- to be kind to everyone” and to “be patient with difficult people.” v24

I wouldn’t get very far with many people if I deviated from this mindset. I pray that my love for others is like salt. I pray that it permeates through to the core of my interactions with others – that even after short encounters that my contact continues to flavor their minds and hearts. Lord, and for those with whom I interact on a daily basis, may Your touch through me draw them to You. May they develop a craving for You that goes beyond my relationship with them. May it be that they cannot go through life without You flavoring their lives on a day by day basis.

Lord, use me this and every day. May I be the salt shaker in Your outstretched arm.

Choices

Father, please use this time together to draw me closer to You and to strengthen my determination to be faithful and true to You. These last few days have been a battle; sin has been battering me from all sides.  I pray that I would do as Paul commands in 1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” I am victorious in You, Almighty God, only in You.

I Thessalonians 1:8-10 (<<click here)

Jesus, I pray that Your word would ring out from me to people everywhere just as it did with the believers of Thessalonica! May every aspect of my life be a proclamation of the victory that is found only in an intimate relationship with You. Every day in every situation I have choices to make – to be loving or hateful, forgiving, to pass along gossip, to feed the monster of discontent, to go with the flow and complain about people or situations beyond my control, to stop, listen and encourage when it would be easier to ignore the whole thing – and the list could go on and on. But Lord, You have called me to be salt and light in my world (Mathew 5:13-16) Grant me the desire to do so willingly and eagerly! And as Paul proclaims at the end of this passage, what I do is all the more important for Your return is immanent! Help me to strive to make You the focal point of my life so others will be encouraged to stay true to You and walk with You faithfully. And if they do not know You that my actions would be a beacon shining on You showing them the way.
