Persistence!

Father, I am grateful for Your hand upon my shoulder this day. You helped me get through so much as I prepped for Sunday’s services and now I have time to review and double check things. I pray now for Your blessings upon our time together. Amen.

Matthew 7:7-8 (<<click the green)

If there is anything that I have learned on this journey which we began together more than 2 years ago, Lord, is that persistence is an absolute necessity. I have purposely left nominal Christianity behind but I am not perfect. I can go for long periods of time and have no major issues in our relationship but then, BAM, I fall flat on my face.

I have learned that, though disappointing, when I fall it does not mean that I must go back to the beginning. I do not have to start from scratch. I must “keep on asking…[and] seeking…[and] knocking” for I know I “will receive what [I] ask for.” I “will find” what I am seeking. And in knocking “the door will be opened.”

Lord and Savior, I ask for Your guidance and You generously give over and over again. I seek Your wisdom and You do not hold back. I knock and I am not left waiting for You readily open the door for me.

Jesus, You don’t just want me to get by, You want me to be victorious! You don’t want me to settle, You want me to excel! I must be persistent. You will not let me go it alone but I must stay the course if I am to be all that You have called me to be. You have made me to be much more than I am and my persistence will be rewarded!

You deserve every bit of praise, Lord, for bringing me to where I am today. May I continue to press onward and upward. Amen and amen!

Sometimes this world starts breaking me down
I get so lost I think I’ll never be found
And there are moments of fear and doubt
Even the best fall to the ground

I am a mess, I am a wrecking ball
I must confess that I still don’t get it all
Lord I believe that all Your words are true
Doesn’t matter where I’m going if I’m going with You
I press on, I press on, I press on
When I still don’t get it

I see the world through my jaded eyes
I get frustrated when there is no Why
I put my focus on worthless things
Even the strong fall to their knees
God only knows what we all need

Life goes on, life goes on
But Your love will prove
All I need, all I need
I will find in You
Life goes on, life goes on
But Your love will prove
All I need, all I need
I will find in You

Onward and Upward

As I sit here, Father, and consciously note my breathing I give You praise. So many today will wake up and have difficulty doing that today. I say a prayer for them. Some may not be challenged to breath but every breath is accompanied by pain or grief. I pray for them, as well. Some are waking today with no physical struggles but where they are, they may wonder if they will live to the end of it. Military and law enforcement, people in war torn lands, many may be praying for a day of safety. May I not forget them in my prayers throughout the day. Father, thank You for where I am, help me not to take it for granted – I am truly blessed.

2 Timothy 1:5 (<<click here)

Lord, as I look back over my life I am reminded of the great spiritual heritage with which I am blessed. Godly parents and grandparents all have lived lives faithful to You and Your calling on their lives. All of them prayed that I would place my faith in You as well. Saying I am blessed is truly an understatement!

I am grateful that You instilled in them a “genuine faith” and that as with Timothy “that same faith continues strong in [me]!” I know that all of us have struggled, that none of us have been perfect but all of us have been diligent – all of us have persevered. None of us were satisfied with status quo spirituality. All of us sought an ever-deepening relationship with You – onward and upward!

Lord, as my grandparents devoted their lives to You and as my mom and dad continue to do so, may I – each and every day – give myself over to You. Help me to continue to faithfully be the torch of Your great love for all.

Overflow

Good morning, Father!  Thank you for the restful extra sleep. I so appreciate Your tender loving care for me. I want to be more like You every day.

Philippians 1: 3-11 (<<click here)

An inspiring passage that goes back a ways for me and reminds me of Steve Green’s song, “He Who Began a Good Work in You”. You are faithful, Lord, what You have begun you will finish. We are always a work in progress; You always have a work for us to do. We are always to be about becoming more and more like You. Verse 9 says that our “love will overflow more and more, and that [we] will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.” Lord, help me to keep on pressing onward and upward!  There is much to do and time is short. You may come at any time, I may go at any time – regardless my life is but a breath and I must be about my Father’s business.

Lord, I know I am far from perfect but I know You, through Your Spirit in me, continue to direct and guide my thoughts and actions. I pray that you will continue to do so, not that you are not willing or able, for You surely are but that I will continue to be faithful and obedient. Truly help my love to “overflow more and more”!

[Chorus]

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He’ll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

If the struggle you’re facing
Is slowly replacing
Your hope with despair
Or the process is long
And you’re losing your song
In the night you can be sure
That the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure
He will never abandon you
You are His treasure
And He finds His pleasure in you
