Running in 2010: Feel The Heat 5K

Running is fun and all but staying conditioned for something like a half-marathon can seriously put a dent in a Saturday afternoon – at one point, I was practically running for two hours every Saturday.

I’m planning to get back there eventually, but for now I’m mixing it up.

This year, I’m trying to aim for some different goals rather than distance, so I’ve signed up for several 5K’s and 10K’s that are happening from February to May.

This past Saturday, I participated in my first race of the year – a 5K.

February Friday #1 – Music & Movies

Blogs are weird. For a lot of us, we’re basically writing about all kinda of nonsense (at least in my case) and then conversing with everyone that spends time reading through it all. I wanted to do something that mixed stuff up a little bit here, so I thought I’d try a series of posts on Fridays during February.

Okay, I know already. February Fridays is an exceptionally lame and original title. Nonetheless, I’m going with it. The whole ordeal is pretty self-explanatory. This first week is a softball.

Alright, let’s do this.

I’m Running (But For What?)

Throughout college, I wasn’t exactly a runner. I mean, I was casual about it – I’d periodically go run a couple of miles around campus, but I was never really that serious. But in August 2008, this sorta changed. Continue Reading…

Pillow Talk

There’s a lot of stuff they don’t tell you about marriage before you get into it. Then again, there’s a lot of stuff that you look forward to – that you expect. You know what I’m talking about, too.

Suffice it to say that, between the two of us, my wife is the more, um, loquacious one. This isn’t limited to the hours in which we’re awake either. The other night, sometime between the hours of 3:00am and 5:00am, she woke up me up to share a few things.

Separated By 2,200 Miles & Four Time Zones

One of the things that North Point is big on is community groups. Since Meghan and I’ve been there, we’ve participated in two of them (one of which we’re currently in right now). It’s an awesome experience, but one of the couples in our current group has recently moved to California. San Diego to be exact. That’s a longer, more awesome story for another time.

The thing is, no one really wanted to continue the group without them participating, but the problem is that we’re separated by 2,200 miles and four time zones. However, last week, we met as a group and all of us were there.

Fighting a Case of the Mondays with Blue Like Jazz

caseofmondays
The majority of us aren’t exactly big fans of Monday (unless it’s your day off). In order to help combat the contamination that Monday can bring, I’m trying to do something about it but I need some help.

Each Monday, I’ll share one of my favorite things or something I’m currently into. Do the same by leaving one of your favorite things – anything – in the comments. It doesn’t even matter what it is as long as you love it. Continue Reading…

What They Don’t Tell You About Marriage #93476

Meghan and I’ve been married for almost two years now, but we’ve known each other for 12. We’re one of those couples that met and dated in high school and continued throughout college (despite going to separate schools). We got hitched after graduation.

Prior to the wedding, we had some good marriage counseling and advice from each of our parental units giving us a heads up on what to think about and prepare for in terms of marriage. You know, things like budgeting, financial planning, conflict, accountability, support, etc, etc. Not to sound unappreciative (because I’m not), but those are all things that most people would typically hear in all the pre-marital stuff.

But then there are things that they don’t tell you about and no matter how long you’ve known each other, there are certain things – no matter how big or how small – you just don’t ever see coming. Continue Reading…
