Father, tonight I’d like to just crawl up onto Your lap. I’m sure You don’t mind. And even though it’s off the wall crazy down with all that’s going on in our world, You will never pass up the opportunity to take me in Your mighty arms and let me know without a doubt that You have always loved me, and always will…

I feel for those who have never had the opportunity to be loved and love back. My parents and my Grandma Provance were all people that I could count on growing up for a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. I am sure at some point that I crawled up into their laps and just basked in that overarching love. I’m a little too big to do that now but there is no need to question that my mom and dad are there for me and lift me up to Father whether I ask them to or not.
In our world, unconditional love is not always a given. Often a no-strings-attached, there-for-you-no-matter-what kind of love is hard to come by. I love them back, but I know there have been times when I have hurt them by things I’ve said or done…but their love has never wavered. Yes, I am blessed beyond measure for I surely ask for no greater blessing than that.
But there is most assuredly a love that surpasses even that love! My Heavenly Father’s love for me goes far above and beyond any love that we may have here on earth. The Apostle Paul wrote of it in his letter to the people of Rome,
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39 AMP
But God’s love of course goes back much further than that. The Prophet Isaiah wrote,
For the mountains may move
….and the hills disappear,
but even then my faithful love for you will remain.
….My covenant of blessing will never be broken,”
….says the Lord, who has mercy on you. Isaiah 54:10 NLT
No matter what this world has to throw at us, no matter where we are, no matter if we are amongst the thousands or all alone, He is there. Going all the way back to the time of the Law given through Moses to the people of Israel, Moses said to Joshua,
“It is the Lord who goes before you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8 AMP
So today, don’t hesitate to crawl up onto God’s lap. He’s expecting you!
