Father, once more I’ve been asked to bring some closure to a family who has suffered loss. It is a few days out, but I would ask that You would guide my thoughts and planning. May my words bring glory to You. Amen.

Dr. Luke picks up where he left off in the Gospel he penned under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and this account is referred to as the Acts of the Apostles.
This account begins with the same men with which the Gospel ended. They are still ordinary people – like you and me – with human frailties and limitations – again like you and me. The only thing that changed – and “only” is a very, very inadequate term to use – but the only thing that changed was that now instead of being just ordinary people, from this point on they are empowered by the Holy Spirit! God Himself infills us to accomplish things never before possible. In fact, His infilling enables us to accomplish things never even dreamed of before!
When the angel spoke with Mary about her pending pregnancy with the Savior of the world, he said,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you…” Luke 1:35 AMP
That union brought forth Jesus. But now the same thing will happen to His followers – first the disciples, then others…many others – including you and me!
Yes, we are ordinary, frail, and limited, but as the angel went on to say to Mary,
“For with God nothing [is or ever] shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37 AMP (emphasis mine)
And when God’s hands are on something, and those involved are fully given over to His will and direction for their lives, things begin to happen, and nothing can stop Him! Just a few chapters down the line, Paul and Silas are said to be “men who have turned the world upside down…” Acts 17:6 AMP
And we, like them, can do the same! Wouldn’t that be great? …so why aren’t we? Well, I hate to leave you hanging but I think this is going to be a two-parter! Make sure you check out tomorrow’s post to get some direction on how we, too, can turn the world upside down!
